Article Types

The Nature-Nurture Journal of Psychology (NNJP) accepts a variety of article types, all adhering to COPE guidelines and American Psychological Association (APA) standards. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed, assigned a permanent Crossref DOI, fully citable, published in responsive HTML and PDF formats, archived in digital repositories, and screened for plagiarism.

Tier 1 Article Types

1. Original Research

  • Description: Primary empirical studies, experimental investigations, or replicative research, including disconfirming results.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

2. Systematic Review

  • Description: Comprehensive synthesis of existing research using predefined, systematic search and analysis methods. Must include a PRISMA flow diagram, funding disclosures, and detailed qualitative or quantitative analysis.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

3. Methods

  • Description: Presentation of novel experimental, psychometric, or analytical methods, or significant modifications of established techniques. Must provide step-by-step procedures, technical validation, and expected results.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Equipment, Methods, Results, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

4. Review

  • Description: Comprehensive critical analysis of an established field or emerging domain, addressing major schools of thought, current research gaps, and future theoretical directions.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Thematic Subsections, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

5. Mini Review

  • Description: Concise, focused summary and critical evaluation of recent developments in a specific, narrow area of psychological research.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Thematic Subsections, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 3,000 words; up to 2 figures/tables.

6. Hypothesis and Theory

  • Description: Presentation of a novel theoretical framework, model, or hypothesis grounded in recent empirical findings and psychological science.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Thematic Subsections, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

7. Clinical Trial

  • Description: Complete results of interventional health and psychological studies. Mandatory public trial registration (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov or equivalent WHO registry) is required.
  • Structure: Abstract (including trial registry number), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.

8. Case Report

  • Description: Documentation of unique clinical cases, psychotherapeutic approaches, or diagnostic challenges with novel or unexpected outcomes. Explicit informed consent for publication is strictly required.
  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Case Description, Diagnostic Assessment, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 3,000 words; up to 4 figures/tables.

9. General Commentary

  • Description: Critical scholarly analysis, perspective, or commentary on notable studies previously published in NNJP or the broader literature.
  • Structure: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Discussion.
  • Limits: Maximum 1,000 words; 1 figure/table.

10. Editorial

  • Description: Introductory articles written by guest editors or research topic editors outlining the objectives, scope, and collective context of a special Research Topic collection.
  • Structure: Title, Abstract, Introduction, References.
  • Limits: Maximum 1,000 words for collections of 5–10 articles; up to 5,000 words for larger collections.

11. Study Protocol

  • Description: Detailed protocol description of prospective empirical research or clinical trials prior to data collection. Mandatory clinical or research trial registration required.
  • Structure: Abstract (including trial registry number), Introduction, Methods, Discussion, Ethics and Dissemination.
  • Limits: Maximum 12,000 words; up to 15 figures/tables.
